Cruise ship donated environmental award funds to Keep Brevard Beautiful

Port Canaveral, FL – Crew members from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Port Canaveral-based Harmony of the Seas will join volunteers for a beach cleanup at Jetty Park from 10 a.m. to around 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2.

Participants should gather at Pavilion 1 at Jetty Park, 9035 Campground Circle. Volunteers who display the flyer for the cleanup event will receive park entrance and a complimentary lunch for taking part. Volunteers with a flyer for the event get into Jetty Park free of charge.

Port Canaveral is co-sponsoring the cleanup along with Royal Caribbean International, KBB and the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral.

“We appreciate the Harmony’s generous donation to Keep Brevard Beautiful and we’re thrilled that some of her officers and crew members will join us for a beach cleanup at Jetty Park,” said Bob Musser, Senior Director, Environmental with the Port. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the port and Royal Caribbean to strengthen their shared commitment to environmental protection.”

Harmony earned a “Save the Waves” plaque from Royal Caribbean for the third quarter of 2019 for going “above and beyond” and organizing the donation and delivery of used sailboat sails to fishermen in Haiti. The cruise ship also won $2,000 to donate to an environmental cause of its choosing and awarded the funds to Keep Brevard Beautiful (KBB), a Cocoa-based nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing litter, recycling and sustaining the environment.

“The Environmental Officer coordinated the donation of sails with the Port Canaveral Yacht Club and delivered the sails to the Labadee, Haiti, Site Manager, who later distributed the donated sails to local fishermen,” Dani Maschinot, Analyst, Environmental Operations & Compliance and Environmental Stewardship with Royal Caribbean, said in a statement. “Harmony’s Executive Committee decided to use the award funds to initiate a new environmental outreach program with KBB, as Port Canaveral is now her home port.”
