Port Canaveral moves forward on building bigger, better cruise terminal

Citing interest from cruise lines in bringing more ships to Port Canaveral, the port’s governing body approved more than $1.2 million in funds to begin work on replacing Cruise Terminal 3.

Canaveral Port Authority commissioners approved the funds to several companies led by Colorado-based engineering company CH2M Hill.

"Port Canaveral is seeing continued growth in our cruise business," said Port Canaveral CEO Captain John Murray. "We regularly review and assess our operational capabilities and, over the last two years, we have made prudent investments in our cruise terminals.”

The budget item approved in the consent agenda during the authority's June 7 meeting calls for the engineering company to lead design a new berth, permit support, dredging, bidding support and construction support.
