Port Canaveral, FL – The economic impact of Port Canaveral operations was revealed today in the results of a new economic impact study released at the Canaveral Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners meeting.  The Port’s total economic contribution throughout Florida equaled $3.9 billion in output, 32,650 jobs and $1.3 billion in wage income.
 
Due to additional work at the Cruise Terminal 3 construction site,  the route to the Freddie Patrick Park boat ramps has been temporarily reconfigured.
The Canaveral Port Authority has joined forces with Ocala, FL-based Crossroads Alliance & Ministries to aid in humanitarian relief efforts for the hurricane-ravaged Bahamas.  Crossroads Alliance is expanding its relief response capabilities with nearly 60,000 square feet of warehouse and office space donated by the Port Authority to the non-profit organization.
Port Canaveral cargo operations notched another milestone as the brand-new chemical/oil products tanker Hafnia Guangzhou made its inaugural North American call last week, arriving at the Port’s North Cargo Pier 2 to discharge 375,000 barrels of jet fuel at the Seaport Canaveral, USA fuel storage terminal.

Junior Port Ambassadors named
Port Canaveral, FL -- The first class of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners’ student Junior Ambassadors has been named. The Junior Ambassadors for the 2019-2020 school year are:
Effective 8:00 a.m. 02 September 2019, Hurricane Condition ZULU will be set in the Port of Canaveral.  No vessel, regardless of size or service, will be allowed to transit through the port, and all commercial vessels over 500 gross tons are prohibited from remaining in the port.
Port Canaveral, FL – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District circulated notice last week regarding plans to conduct needed repairs and maintenance on the Canaveral Lock. According to the Corps, the work is necessary to repair aging and damaged infrastructure in addition to improving public and vessel safety. The Lock will be closed and dewatered from Dec. 1, 2019, through March 30, 2020. The public can provide comment on the Lock’s planned closure until Monday, Sept. 30.
Port Canaveral, FL – Port Canaveral is giving local students the opportunity to become young ambassadors for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. The Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners’ Junior Port Ambassador Program will enable students at nine public high schools and two private high schools within the Canaveral Port Authority Special District to share career opportunities at the Port and provide workforce development and community outreach. Home-schoolers and Clearlake Adult Education Program students up to age 19 also will be eligible.
Port Canaveral, FL – The Canaveral Port Authority will receive $1.5 million in funding from the State of Florida to support the acquisition of a specialized fireboat to provide marine firefighting and rescue capabilities for Port Canaveral and the surrounding communities. Port Canaveral’s Marine Firefighting Rescue Vessel (MFRV) will be purpose built to offer enhanced fire protection and response time capabilities to serve the Port’s growing maritime operations and expanding space enterprise in the area.
